REGENERATE Consortium Formed to frontline in Environmental Advocacy and Campaigns in Davao Oriental

Davao Oriental, Philippines - Responding to the pressing need to address environmental and climate challenges in Davao Oriental and the Philippines at large, the REGENERATE Consortium was established as a joint initiative between Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) and BaiAni Foundation Inc.

The Consortium's inception traces back to October 2022, when both DOrSU and BaiAni Foundation Inc. signed a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This marked the beginning of their collaborative efforts to establish a Climate Action Consortium, founded on their shared vision of conserving and restoring the natural ecosystems in the province and beyond.

Despite the adversities brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, both institutions remained unwavering in their commitment to the Consortium's formation. In March 2023, representatives from DOrSU and BaiAni Foundation Inc. convened to chart the Consortium's course, defining its goals, thrusts, and priorities. The meeting culminated in the identification of three flagship programs, collectively known as Regenerative ABC— Agriculture, Biodiversity, and Community.

The Regenerative ABC programs lie at the heart of the Consortium's activities and serve as guiding pillars in their pursuit of objectives. The first pillar, Regenerative Agriculture, aims to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices that rejuvenate the land and promote food security. The second, Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Restoration, focuses on preserving and enhancing the rich biodiversity of the region while restoring degraded ecosystems. Finally, the third pillar, Sustainable Community Development, seeks to empower and uplift local communities, ensuring their active participation in environmental stewardship.

DOrSU, BaiAni Foundation Inc., and the Davao Oriental Provincial Tribal Council are the founding members of the REGENERATE Consortium. Their combined efforts aim to build a more sustainable and resilient future for Davao Oriental and the entire country.
