Information and Education Campaign (EIC) Promotes Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation in Tarragona, Philippines

Tarragona, Philippines - In an effort to promote biodiversity and wildlife conservation, an Information and Education Campaign (EIC) was organized to celebrate World Wildlife Month and World Forest Day. The event aimed to raise awareness among young learners about the importance of protecting and conserving endemic species of plants and animals found in the Municipality and the entire province as a whole.

The event featured engaging activities such as the Wildlife Puzzle, Sack Racing to Save Wildlife, and Wildlife Message Relay. The highlight of the campaign was the distribution of coloring books to students of Tarragona Central Elementary School, Kamoning Elementary School, and Ompao Elementary School. The coloring book showcased endemic species of plants and animals found in Mount Mayo Key Biodiversity Area and encouraged students to take an active role in protecting them.

Dr. Roy G. Ponce, SUC III President of DorSu, Dr. Bernadette J. Nanual, Associate Supervisor of the Institute of Terrestrial Regenerative Biodiversity (i-TReB), Ms. Maje Egento, Senior Technical Office of BaiAni Foundation Inc., Zed Jal Uy, Municipal Administrator representing Mayor Samuel L. Uy, and Mark Anthony Lawani of MENRO Tarragona, spearheaded the distribution of the coloring books.

The event was made possible through the support of various organizations namely the Municipality of Tarragona, Davao Oriental State University, DORSU's Institute of Terrestrial Regenerative Biodiversity, Scientia Naturalis Societa (DORSU-SNS), BaiAni Foundation, EGIP Foundation, San Pedro College Research Division, and National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

The event emphasized the importance of recognizing the rich diversity and significance of plants and animals in conservation and protection efforts. Maje Egento of BaiAni Foundation expressed her gratitude to all organizers and left a challenge to the students and visitors to become a “BaiAni-Bayani” who fights for the protection and conservation of our environment.
